A free reference for travelers in Japan. Here is exactly what it does with your data — and what it is, and isn’t.
What it is
Fair Price Checker tells you whether a menu price is typical, using dated reference ranges from public sources. It’s a friendly guide — not a store rating, not a recommendation, and not financial advice. Prices and currency amounts are approximate.
Photos
When you scan a menu, the photo is sent to a third-party AI service only to read the item names and prices. Our reader doesn’t keep it. It stays in your browser for the current session — to show on the result screen — and is cleared when you close the tab. The image is re-encoded before sending, which strips location/EXIF data. We never save your photos to a server.
Saved on your device only
“My finds” keeps a short history — dish, price, verdict and date — in your browser’s local storage, on this device only. It never includes photos, store names, or personal information. Clear it anytime by clearing your browser data.
No account, no tracking
No sign-in, no personal data collected, and no advertising. During the beta there is no analytics either.
Prices & accuracy
Reference ranges are curated from public sources and dated (“as of …”). Real prices vary by shop, season and size, so treat each verdict as a guide, not a guarantee. Currency amounts use approximate rates, not live exchange rates.
